Turbo is an animated comedy film by Dreamworks Animation. The story follows a young garden snail named Theo [voiced by Ryan Reynolds], and how his dreams are to become faster, as fast as a car, so he can feel the speed. He looks up to race car champion, Guy Gagne [voiced by Bill Hader].
His brother, Chet [voiced by Paul Giamatti], wants him to slow down and live his life as an ordinary garden snail, and has to bail him out from danger when he's all in his dream world of racing. Then one day, he goes out above the highway, drops down, and gets sucked into a race car, different liquids and chemicals seeping into his body. When he gets up, he meets Tito [voiced by Michael Pena], who is part of a lonely strip mall, working at Dos Bros Tacos with his brother, Angelo [voiced by Luis Guzman]. After a snail racing competition, and meeting a bunch of new snails, he learns he has the power to go really, really fast. So they go off to the Indy 500 to make Theo famous and for the little group's strip mall to be on the map.
This was a good film in general. I thought it felt too rushed, and maybe a little short. I felt as if I was just watching Pixar's Cars, but with a snail and his backstory. It didn't seem original. The voice acting was good though, and I think they added in some famous actors such as Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson, Snoop Dogg, and Bill Hader, to give it some attention.
The animation and sound was good. The sound of the cars blasting off, and little specks of rubber from the tires flying at your face on the race track. The animation of the characters and the different backgrounds were beautifully-animated to make it seem real.
Overall, this family-friendly animated comedy film did have lack of story, but it still had some humor and a good sense of being a "kids film" in it. I'd recommend it if you just want to relax without having to focus or understand anything, and enjoy a good animated film. I'd give Turbo....
